It’s Time To Celebrate Labor Day

It’s Labor Day this weekend and everyone gets the day off unless of course you work in the Hospitality industry. It’s the nature of the beast!

Aaahh, this brings back fond memories of my first day of college at Johnson & Wales University.  Our soft- spoken Chef stood at the front of the class and asked the future Culinarians, “raise your hand if you don’t want to ever work weekends, nights or holidays?” Like a bunch of naive young kids, we all innocently raised our hands. 

Much to our surprise, our mild mannered Chef went ballistic.  Screaming, “get the hell out of here, you don’t belong here, stop wasting my time!!!” What were we thinking?  Of course we wanted to work weekends, nights and holidays, right?  Isn’t that the reality of the Hospitality Industry?

It is the reality and we love it, we wouldn’t have it any other way!  Many years ago, as a young adult just entering the job world, I never would have imagined that my passion for this industry would carry me through.  It’s the passion we all share that makes the looong hours, nights, weekends and holidays palatable and loads of fun!
